Kappa Alpha's Chapter Room felt institutional and disjointed before we began our work. The space had no ties to the historical space it is connected to. We worked to transform the room's utilitarian shell into a beautiful library-like space for chapter meetings and study. We played off the hues in the existing fireplace, a severe architectural element that commanded attention. With a creative, highly functional layout, we sought a symmetrical feel that drew attention away from the fireplace and achieved an overall air of sophistication and serenity. While our color palette remains neutral, rich, textured fabrics and stone finishes add depth and dimension to the space. Archival material showcasing the achievements and memories of former sisters monograms the space, creating an undeniable sense of home for the young residents.
