ALPHA GAMMA DELTA

  • Athens, GA

  • Spring 2023

Built in 1896, the Thomas-Carithers house resides on the corner of Baxter St. and Milledge Ave. This classic home functions as a sorority house for Alpha Gamma Delta. Their organization hired our firm to balance the tremendous pressure of the home's history with the girls' need for an approachable space they feel comfortable using. Our focus was on 6 rooms, the foyer, the gentleman's parlor, the library, the drawing room, the den, and the solarium. We assigned each space its own specific function and engineered layouts that could be of use to the young residents. We embraced the unique historical traits of the home and made our creative motivation to bring joy, whimsy, and sophistication to its interiors. We utilized the sorority's symbolic color palette to give them ownership and a special tie to their home. We focused on patterns and lines that brought movement to the once stagnant environment. None of the home's grand qualities or its existing elegance were compromised, but reinforced with a fresh personality and sense of vitality.
